The '''breaker feeder''' is typically used in opencast coal mining to link the mobile and stationary equipments of the section. It evens the flow of coal onto the conveyor belt and breaks the coal down to a manageable size thus increasing opencast production.

The main structure of the feeder breaker comprises of two components: (1) the Inlet Frame and (2) the Under Carriage. The Inlet Frame is the receiving end of the frame in which coal is fed by the dumper through a hopper. The Under Carriage forms the drive end of the conveyor. A single crusher drum is centrally mounted and crushed coal is discharged to a belt conveyor from the elevated end of the Under Carriage. A coal dust suppressing system has been provided to reduce pollution.

Breaker Feeder with components

The breaker feeder is typically used in opencast coal mining to link the mobile and stationary equipments of the section.

Special characteristics:

  • The feeder breaker is provided with an automatic centralised greased lubrication system to ensure proper, trouble free running;
  • The crusher drum and gear box are coupled through a shear-head arrangement to prevent excessive load on the gear box;
  • A hydraulic hammer with swivel arm is fitted near the crusher drum to tackle abnormal size coal lumps; and
  • A speed monitor is mounted directly on the shaft of the crusher drum.
