Vision Sensor

Vision Sensor is an image processing system , which is optimized for a specific task.A vision sensor captures images, evaluates you with image processing algorithms, and then triggers the appropriate response.Vision Sensors analyze images to perform appearance inspections, character inspections, positioning and defect inspections.

Specialization

Vision sensors are specialized in certain fields of application (industry solution) and suitable for less complex image processing tasks. They contain interfaces for communication, such as ethernet, but also industry-standard 24-volt ports for connection to PLC or pneumatic valves .For simplicity of operation, the number of hardware and software-panel control is greatly reduced, so that usually only small changes to the application are possible.

Parts

A vision sensor is typically most of the following components:

  • Integrated lighting usually LEDs
  • Built-in Lens
  • an imaging sensor, for example, CCD or CMOS sensor and its control
  • one memory for firmware and the current sensor parameter
  • an image and data storage than most RAM running
  • a real-time image processor, implemented as DSP , CPU , FPGA , or as a (embedded) PC
  • Application-specific information processing
  • Interface for connection to an external computer usually USB , Ethernet - rare FireWire
  • digital inputs and outputs at 24 V technology for connecting eg a PLC

Vision Sensor Operation

Machine vision systems provide data interchange between a video camera and computer-based software. The images captured are compared against criteria specified by the operator to determine subsequent actions. This criteria can be based on barcodes, blot or stain detection, sizing and alignment, and a variety of other characteristics that can be determined solely by non-contact examination. Vision sensors are particularly helpful when multiple features must be inspected on the product. There is usually some degree of tolerance for each article. Vision sensors are considerably quicker and more accurate than humans employed for the same task.
